This home was built in Auburn with a view of the snow-capped mountains of the Sierra Crest. We constructed it to maximize that view while incorporating hints of the Prairie Style. These include extra wide eaves, a low pitched roof, and long horizontal lines. Design considerations flowed from the view as well as the side and down sloping lot.

 

The house was built in 3 “pods”. The left pod includes the kids’ rooms and family room, the middle pod contains the living room, kitchen, and dining room, and the right pod, built over the garage, is the master bedroom suite.

 

Each pod was designed to cascade down the side slope to best integrate the house with the terrain. This makes for a very attractive interior where each pod is several steps lower than its adjacent pod as one moves from left to right.

 

Downstairs next to the garage is an additional bedroom/office.
